Carrie Liscum-Cumber

Fall 2000

Full Name Carrie Louise Liscum-Cumber

Did you (or do you still) have a nickname? Besides “drama queen” I am without a nickname!

Family I was married in 2003 to my wonderful husband Shawn.  Our son's name is Jonathan Daniel he is 5 years old and my pride and joy! We are expecting a daughter to be born around May of 2007, her name will be Clarissa Louise.

What do you do for a living?  Well I have done a little of everything including, secretary, bank teller, school monitor, and am currently a stay at home mom. I plan to be a stay at home mom until my kids are grown and in school.

Where were you born, where do you live now?  I was born in Potsdam , NY . I lived in Norwood until 2003. My husband is from Central Square, NY so once he graduated from Clarkson we moved to the Central Square/Hastings area.

What are your hobbies? My hobbies include sewing, learning to cook and bake (yes I said learning), bowling, and redesigning my home every chance I get.

Favorite Food Well not pregnant I would have to say corned beef and cabbage, pregnant anything with sugar!

Favorite Movie Well I love the older movies like Gidget, and Gone with the wind.  But I would have to say Sound of Music and West Side Story or Romeo and Juliet! There are a few.

Favorite City None, I would prefer the suburbs of any city over the city. But just to choose I would say San Antonio Texas . Loved it, so old and historic.

Favorite Book or Author  I love John Grisham. I am a legal freak so The Firm and The Juror are great reading.

Favorite Quote  Remember: amateurs built the ark, professionals built the Titanic.

Pledge Class Fall 2000

Big Sister and Big Brother  My Big Sister is Christine Gero, Class of 1999. My Big Brother is Don Reynolds also of 1999.

Number of Pledge Sisters I think there were 11 of us. I remember Heather Thrasher (now married), Ellie Baretta, Amanda Brayton (now married), Mary Delaney (now married), Megan Larock, Brooke Domonie (now married), Melissa Barr (now married), Kristy Downing, Danielle Harrington, Rayna James. I believe that is all of us, sorry If I missed someone.

Who did you take to your first AXO formal? I believe it was Adam Gidney my current ZAP boyfriend.

If you could relive one moment as an active member of AXO, what would it be?  I would have to relive the day we moved into a house. It is actually the green house diagonal from our original house. It was Amanda, Megan, Danielle, Melissa and I living there. It had to be the best feeling.

What did you learn during pledging/orientation that has stayed with you for the rest of your life? Stand up to your friends.  They will respect you more and you will respect yourself. Do not let anything interfere with your beliefs even if they are your best friend. They will understand if they really are. (And sisters always do!!)

What advice would you give to a woman who is thinking of pledging?  Just do it, you will get more than you ever thought you would from the experience. And you can give so much back after that experience is over. Sisters are there for a lifetime and you should never pass that up!

What advice would you give to an active member of AXO (still at school)? First: Study hard, your education will last you forever and you need to make sure that you are making the best out of your college experience and that includes your education.  Second: Hold on to the memory of friends so close, because it gets harder to stay in touch once college is over.  Keep touch with whomever you can however much it takes. Other than blood family and relatives, these are the greatest people to have in you life.

Final Comments Advice for all : Don’t worry about the little things in life, they will just stress you out, concentrate on the larger things worth your time. Like Living, Loving, Family and Friends.   I know things are different now that when I pledged, even though it was not so long ago (seems like ages!).  Keep up the good work to all of my sisters, so when I tell my children of the best times in my life I can point them to AXO!
